In the documentary film 5 Broken Cameras, Palestinian villager Emad receives his first camera when his fourth son, Gibreel, is born. The film is set in the village of Bil'in, where a separation barrier is being built, and the villagers start to resist this decision. Over a period of more than five years, Emad documents the struggle against the barrier construction, led by his two best friends.
As Emad continues to film the resistance, he also captures precious moments of Gibreel's growth. However, the conflict begins to take a toll on his family and personal life. Daily arrests and night raids terrify his family, and Emad and his loved ones are frequently subjected to violence or imprisonment.
