In Upp i rök (1978), Cheech and Chong, two marijuana enthusiasts, unexpectedly reunite on a California highway. Determined to find some weed, they encounter a series of unfortunate events that lead to their accidental deportation to Mexico. Stranded and desperate to return home, they agree to drive a van back to the United States in order to make it in time for a scheduled gig.
Unbeknownst to them, the van they are driving is made from a unique material with special properties. Along the way, they pick up two female hitchhikers and unwittingly attract the attention of the police who are pursuing them.
As they race against time to reach their destination, Cheech and Chong must navigate various obstacles and evade the authorities hot on their trail. They remain blissfully unaware of the imminent danger, focusing solely on their mission to make it back for their performance.
